This on my 1941 J4E.
The frame serial # 4-1471 is near the center of the most forward cabin cross brace and also on the lower right door hinge. The door hinge location seems strange as it could easily swapped out with another.
The data plate is in the left glove box #4-1459 and corresponds to all the paperwork I have including the FAA.
Serial # 4-1471 is on a J4E registered in North Carolina.
I wonder if this was common?
