Started with a CFI that had me doing side slip to handle a crosswind so the windward wing was down..and to steepen slope the slip was swung around to have that wing AND the fuselage side into the relative wind..forward slip. OK. Then flew with a CFI that had me put the nose into the wind for a crosswind..a crab...NOW to steepen the slope the leading wing was lowered and the fuselage side AWAY from the crosswind source was into the relative wind. So, maybe a side slip always has the lowered wing into the wind...but a forward slip can be done with wind from any direction ..or no wind. All of this relative to some linear feature on the ground of course.
