I have a 1949 PA-11 which was restored back in 2000 time frame as it was originally manufactured. It is still in great shape, however I spend a lot of time flying it. The only changes made from original stock configuration is I added shielded plugs without cowling change and wires along with shield p-leads so I can use a hand held radio. Added in fuselage antenna. I also added a nose cone, which I want to replace with stock plate if I can ever find one.

I recently stopped at Sky Acres airport (44N) in CT to get fuel, and found the pumps where up on top of a steep hill. Of course, I didn't have any issue with taxing up to the pumps, but getting down was a bit of an adventure with the stock brakes my PA-11. Now the brakes are not working very good, and need to have them fixed.

I am considering having Grove brakes installed instead of the stock brakes, but wanted to keep the PA-11 in a stock configuration as possible. Having better brakes would make landing off airport safer in my opinion which is most of my flying.

Any opinions on adding Grove brakes? My mechanic also stated I could add 6 inch wheels and 29" air streaks which might be nice. I have 25" good years on it now with stock wheels. I may consider selling in future to upgrade to Supercub or CarbonCub, but not sure if adding Grove brakes would hurt, help or not change resale options.

Thanks,

Dave
