Clyde Smith has written in the past one of the basic problems he finds with a quick walk-around inspection of Cubs is the rudder stop(s) has become too short. This allows the rudder to move excessively, sometimes to the extent that it can touch the elevator.
The original rudder stop was simply a small tube that was filed down to the necessary length to give the proper rudder deflection limit. I have heard of inserting a screw or bolt into the end of the too-short original rudder stop tube in order to correct the condition.
Does anybody have suggestion for how to best do this?
