I am starting the restoration of a 1946 J-3. It has not flown since 1979 and (lucky for me) the two previous owners did no work but just bought new stuff for it--new prop, struts, tires and brakes, windows, seats, cables, 0 time C65, aluminum stringers and much more. Every purchase, down to nuts and bolts has a receipt. The logs are missing in the 60s. The plane went to Milan, Tennessee from the factory and spent most of its life in Tn and Ky. It left the Lock Haven on April 12th 1946 and was sold to the Boen Flying Service in Milan. The fuselage is in the jig for a lower longeron replacement (had to make tubing to go inside at the splices) and I am replacing the leading edges skins on the wings. I plan to start covering in a couple weeks. I am going to use AirTec. Pictures to follow. I have serious local competition from CUBRATH. His restoration is looking very nice .
