Hi ! I'm finally getting close (just waiting on pre-buy) to selling my Mooney and looking to buy a Cub.
I'm in NY area and looking to buy a plane in Virginia.
J-3C
Low time prop/engine 81hrs (4 years) W72CK-40 and A65-8F
5 year old Ceconite 102 fabric/aux fuel tank
ELT

I have a mechanic here whom I trust and could fly down to look at the plane, but he is not a rag-wing guy. I'm sure he can carefully look over engine, and give me his opinion of the plane. He has done annuals on Cubs, but isn't an expert. How important is it when doing a pre-buy to have a "Cub guy" do it ?

Also, what's the best way of telling if a thorough inspection and necessary repairs were done when the airplane was re-covered ?

I am interested in this plane, in part, because it was recently recovered with newish engine and prop. It was recovered by a guy, Joseph Erale, who seems to have had many show winners, so I take that as a good sign.

I do have to check weight, but I'm small and would mostly be flying solo, so that's not a huge issue...

Any thoughts would be appreciated !
