I posted this over on the Cessna 140 site as an FYI and figured I would post it here since the engine is pretty much the same as the A/C units on our Cubs

Doing the annual on the 140 and I wanted to pull all 4 jugs and inspect the cam, lifters etc. Had one cylinder showing 20/80 comp. Engine was a Mattituck ovh from 1974 and has around 4200 TT with 1760 SMOH and 800 on the cylinders.

When we removed the valve we noticed something come out of the keeper. Seems the valve was completely fractured in half. A clean break almost looked like it was machined that way. Just thought I would post up pics as an FYI I had not seen this before.
I was lucky I didnt drop a valve.

I scored an overhauled O 200 today for 4500 bucks so this engine will go into the project bin for future reference.
