I remounted the old cowling on the new fusalge of my J3 restoration to see how the old fit with the instrument panel looked. The old boot cowl and panel mounted with about an eigth inch or more of instrument panel "lip" above the cowling interface with the back of the panel.

Does that seem right to the illuminati out there in Cub land? I'm trying to figure out it I should expect the old panel to fit flush with the new cowling around the top edge of the panel, or if the eigth in lip that the panel sticks up with the old cowl should be my model for moving forward with the new cowling installation. Aesthetically, it seems to me that having the panel top ege above the interface with the cowling would make sense to the eye as I'm afraid there is no way, that I can see, to get a perfect flush seam between the panel top and the cowling.

Thanks for the help ahead of time.
