Has anyone here had experience with fretting (wear) of the left lower aileron cable where it passes through the lower lift strut fairlead? That's what mine is doing and the wear is almost to the point where the cable will no longer pass inspection. As I understand it, that occurs when the individual woven steel strands are no longer visible due to wear.

I flew the aircraft just yesterday, the first flight following its annual inspection. The cable is easily visible in flight. There does appear to be low frequency vibration in the cable from the slipstream, but movement is identical to the same cable on the right side, which shows no wear in 30 years. There is no vibration visible in the cable at the lower fairlead, but that is where the wear seems to be happening.

If you've had the problem, how did you fix it?

Thanks much!

Howard
