I'm doing an annual on a J3. It came into the US from Canada a couple of years ago but it appears as though this is the first annual done here since it was given it's certificate.

Anyway, I'm looking at the tailwheel. It looks like a Maule but I'm not sure. The bushing is very sloppy and it has this large hexagonal boss threaded into the housing with an inner screw that adjusts a plug (aluminum or phonalic, not sure yet what it's made of) up against the shaft. I've never seen anything like this and don't see anything like it in any of the catalogs I've looked in (Univair, A/C Spruce, etc)

So my question is: is this OEM? if so what make? It looks to me like it's somebody's idea of a 'fix' for a worn out bushing but thought I'd trawl the net to see if anyone knows something I don't. Frankly, if this is OEM, it sure doesn't work very well.

I can take a picture of it tomorrow if that would help.
