I had my fuel level gauge stick the other day because of a slight kink in the wire and are thinking about replacing my rod with a SS welding rod and trying to use a Univair replacement float ( 415-48057-1 ERCOUPE FUEL GAUGE FLOAT).
I like the idea of using a solid float because it can't accidentally crack or take in fuel and sink. Plus it will have the rod running through it and will be harder to break off unlike a soldered brass float.
I might just bite the bullet and buy Univair's complete 130 dollar unit but kind of liked the idea of keeping my original cap. How well is Univair's unit calibrated ? Does it have 2.25 gallons left in the tank when the rod bend hits the cap ? Anyone have experience with it ?
