My standard 12gal Cub fuel tank has a threaded fuel filler neck. The stub on the tank has inner threads and the filler neck has outer threads. The filler neck is much too short and I would like to get a longer filler neck or get the existing filler neck extended. A few rookie questions...

1. Anybody ever remove one of these fill necks? Is there a best practice in accomplishing the removal?
2. How feasible is it to have somebody chop this neck in half and weld another an inch, or so, of height into the middle?
3. Know of any suitable, longer direct replacements? It looks like Wag has some options but not enough details to know if they'd work.
