A few years back I sent one of my lunchbox magnetos to Fresno Airparts for an overhaul. Today I received a letter from the Fresno FSDO recommending I remove it from service and have it overhauled by a reputable shop.

What the feds don’t know is I had replaced that mag a month or so after getting it back because it didn’t work any better after the overhaul than it did before (quit working after 10-15 minutes of flight). Within 6 months I had the mag overhauled in Tulsa because I could tell by looking it was a shoddy overhaul. It looks a lot better now but it has been on the shelf ever since the second overhaul so I still don’t know if I have a good spare or not.
