I finally was able to get the floorboards out of our J-3, and I came across a couple things that I get some info/opinions from the rest of the clan here.
The floorboards appear to be original, just coated over with paint a couple times. The four bolts holding the torque tube in were marked "Piper Cub", so they are original (or original type). The clamps on the forward floorboard (the ones in the middle) were being held in by a couple machine screws (like #10 round phillips head) with nuts on the back. All the bolts holding the brakes, rear clamps, etc, were being held on the back by small nuts (yeah, make your own jokes here). It required a 1/4" socket to take them out, with a 3/8 socket on the head of the bolt. Would that have been Piper hardware?
Looking at pictures from other's airplanes, it seems everyone goes with AN3 bolts for the all the floorboard hardware. Not that I am concerned about originality, but this seemed odd.
All the hardware has been a bear to remove, and the airplane has only been recovered once (that was even done on the gear from how it appears).
