Hello All,
I have a 41 J3F-65 and I'm looking for a higher horsepower Continental engine. I have the Babcock STC that opens the door for C-85 and C-90 engines and have been looking for an affordable mid time that I can hang on it.
I found a complete and mid time (940 hours) C-85-8F with metal prop for around 4K and would like to buy it, but I am really concerned that with my J3 being a Franklin/F cub that I am going to have more difficulty getting this engine combination approved. Do you think it's worth that hassle or should I keep looking for -8 or -12 tapered crank engine? It seems like a pretty good deal and do not want to pass it up if the combo will work...
I have read other threads about getting them approved using the service letter from continental, but I don't know if this approach works for J3Fs.
Any advice from all of you would greatly appreciated. I'm leaving for a vacation this weekend and the engine is along the route for our road trip. If I'm going to do it, I need to decide quickly.
Thank you for your reply,
Ed
