Hi All,
I had a recurrent stuck exhaust valve issue on my C-85 powered Cub this summer, so we decided to pull the cylinder and send it off to the cylinder shop. After my A&P had replaced the cylinder, he realized he had forgotten to bleed down the lifters so the cylinder came off again. At this point he discovered that the lifter body on the exhaust valve had a small deformation on the edge that is preventing him from extracting the internal components. Unless this issue can be resolved, he says we need to split the case to extract the lifter body. So, a simple cylinder R&R now seems to be morphing into a major engine repair operation.....
So, how does damage occur to the lifter body, and are there any practical alternatives to tearing the engine apart to resolve this issue assuming we can't extract the lifter internals any other way?
