I had much fun and a great learning experience building this engine along with John Mann's guidance. It seems the engine work was fairly straight forward...it was the cowling and exhaust tweaking that... well took a lot of little adjustment to make everything line up right.

It fired right up after 6 pull throughs. I did a few ground runs and checked for leaks...had to snug up the oil temp probe. Purred like a kitten.

I taxied to the end of the strip and let it rip. I could sure tell the difference...ground run was shorter and climb better too. I flew around for about 45 min at 2300. That power setting seemed to indicate 90 to 95. (7244 wood prop)

Thanks to all who have helped me here with advice on the rebuild...

I do have an interesting discovery I have to pass on. Has anyone else used a tire valve for the cushion between the cowls before putting the pin in the hole? The diameter is a perfect snug fit, just cut the stem off and use the flat of a grinder to make the width right. I've used rubber hoses in the past, but never the right diameter or width. These tire valves are a perfect fit, $2.50 a pair at Auto Zone.
