ART HARTMAN'S 1937 "Taylor" J3. Earliest J3 in civilian Registry

I just bought this project. I will probably need lots of help from u all in restoration questions. Data plate on plane says taylor J-3 but original bill of sale says piper J-3. Plane was mfg by Taylor but before the plane was sold, Piper took over company. Ser no. 2031. Art Hartman restored the plane himself in 1964 and I think might have been the last to fly it. It has gone thru few more owners but I don't think it was in service and flyable. Still researching though.
