In Remembrance 2023
I know it's not Cub related, but I finally found this on You Tube. My wife and I drove down with my WWI group and somebody made a decent video of the proceedings. This was a great show. At about 56 minutes, you will see why I remember the show so well. I had kids lined up from one end of the field to the other waiting to shoot my Browning. I should have never sold that old girl. I made a bloody fortune that weekend. $5 for 10 rounds.
There were some great airplanes there, especially the DR-1s, the Albatros and the Pfalz. That Pfalz was one of the Blue Max birds as I recall. I got a ride in a scale DH-4. Loved seeing the collection of aviation machine guns that were there.
There was supposed to be a "battle" on the field. Me and the BMG at one end and the Germans attacking. At the very start, however, Rick Keller fired his original German spigot mortar from a couple of hundred yards away. The shell landed 5 feet in front of me. That concluded my participation. I took off my helmet, lit my pipe, sat back and watched.
