85 Continental Mounting

Just tried to mount an 85 to a J-3. Everything was perfect with new engine mount from Univair in bolting it up to the plane mounts and also to the engine mounts, but with a Scottech starter on it , it rubs the firewall.
It has new bushings from Wag. Any helpful suggestions? Thought about taking a sledge hammer to it to make it fit--Ha!
