I just purchased a 39 J3F-50 (serial # 3464) that belonged to my Grandfather and number of years ago. From what I understand this is a very rare Cub with the original Franklin 50 hp engine. An appraisal done in 1997 said it was one of four left. The Cub is uncovered, disassembled but seems to be fairly complete.
My knowledge of Piper Cubs can be summed up as I know most are yellow, old and pretty slow. This is what leads me to this forum. I simply need input.
I recognize the historical value of this aircraft and I feel that it is my responsibility to preserve it. The initial plan is to maintain its originality but not sacrifice safety. That said, I am basically looking for input to achieve this goal. I have only owned this Cub for 72 hours but have managed to post some photographs to a blog. www.piperj3.blogspot.com
I must say that I am fortunate to be surrounded by folks who have years of aircraft building experience. In a nutshell, anything can get done. I just want to make every attempt to do it the it in manner that preserves it historically.
