  • Posted in thread: Trim Yoke/Jackscrew wear on 06-14-2018 at 04:10 PM
I replaced the yoke and jackscrew on my Pacer as it was getting harder to turn. I was
completely shocked at how much play there was when I got it out of there. It didn't seem to
have any play when it ...

I like wind and point info (particular airport or town) from wunderground, but I like these
    maps for long range planning...

Got it. Found the parts. So looking at about $2500+ Paint, labor. Thanks! Also searched after
posting (I know, backwards) and found a lot of good info. Paint can be very cheap, I did my
    Pacer's sealed...

Also depends on how long the runway is. A mile long runway and 500' might let you do a 180 deg
turn and no more, but off-airport might have better choices...

More likely someone picked it up somewhere else and dropped it in your parts without thinking
about. It reminds me of the time my dad was assembling a freshly overhauled R-680. He had all
    the parts he...

  • Posted in thread: J3 vs L4 grasshopper on 03-21-2018 at 06:25 PM
Back in the 1950's, 60's and 70's, many people preferred individualized colors and paint
schemes over the standard factory yellow / lightning bolt or L-4 OD camo schemes (yawnnn,
    excuse me). Maybe the...

Interesting discussion. I wasn't aware of the great popularity of the PA-11. I have 50 hours or
so in 65hp J-3s and a couple of hours in a 150hp PA-18. Always thought the PA-12 would be the
    ultimate l...

So how does a $50K PA-11 compare with a $31K PA-12? I guess you give up the wonderful Cub split
door, but if you're flying from the front seat you probably won't miss it so much?

Airnav has a great fuel planner that let's you see potential route options. Just put in your
conservative range and see what comes up. Then you can look on Skyvector

I did my first spins in a J-3 during the third or fourth hour of dual before solo. It's a kick.
The Cub is a great spinner. You sit on the centerline (so you're not pushed to the side of the
    cabin as ...
