Wagner Twin Cub

If I have my story correct, I believe that in the early 50's a chap named Wagner married up two Cub fuselages. One fuselage was staggered behind the other for prop clearance.

Has this been discussed on this Forum anywhere, or does anyone have any detailed information on its history (and where it is now?). I'm just a bit curious.

It's been done a couple of times.

The fuselage weren't staggered. One of the props had a spacer behind it to move it in front of the other.

What was the purpose of the configuration? Was it just a novelty thing? I would think the over lapping props would degrade performance?

J3 Driver, thanks for that information. I thought I had seen an overhead photo years ago that showed the fuselages staggered. Your explanation of the offset props makes more sense for a lot of reasons.

Fifinella, you bring up a good point. What sort of vibration would the two overlapping props cause to the airframes? And, I like your avatar by the way. Where did it come from?

Bob, its from the WASP web site. At the Wright Museum here in Wolfeboro, NH they have a section honoring the WASP's with all types of photo's of the gal's and their planes alone with a 45 minute DVD full of interviews and period movies of them flying and having fun. First time I watched it I cried. It was sad and it was emotional and it is fantastic.

As far as the plane, I would really wonder about the asymmetrical loading on the propellers where they over lap, specially in flight. Did that model fly?
